Car Treasure Hunt Season ends on a High!

What a great day we had at the Fitzherbert Arms on Saturday 19th October. Nine competitive teams rocked up on a wonderful sunny day and drove the country lanes of Staffordshire that surround our lovely pub. The competitors had to take photos, pick up 42 cryptic clues and answer some car and Fitzherbert Arms specific questions too. Everyone was back in good time and enjoyed a few complimentary nibbles while owner Tim marked the papers!

As pictured In third place were ‘Real Ale Madrid’.  They were knocked into third by veteran Treasure Hunters and winners in 2019 ‘Road To Nowhere’. In first place was Team Galley who did a very good round to pick up the cup and become Fitzherbert Arms Treasure Hunt Champions 2024. The winning team also picked up some unique Guinness glasses and some Guinness too from our sponsors Guinness 0.0%, as well as the main prize of £200 Gift Card to use in our pubs also generously supported by Guinness 0.0%.

Well done to the winners and indeed to all the teams that took part. Thank to Guinness for their sponsorship support at the Fitzherbert Arms. We raised a further £90 for the Air Ambulance, which means over the three Treasure Hunts held in October at our Cholmondeley Arms and Bulls Head, as well as the Fitz, we have raised £340.00 for the Air Ambulance in total!  A great effort by everyone. Thank you!

See you all in October 2025!

The Fitzherbert Arms’ 8th Treasure Hunt is a hit!

We certainly got lucky with the weather as 12 teams rocked up to compete in the 8th annual Fitzherbert Car Treasure Hunt 2023. The teams set off into the lovely Staffordshire countryside as usual picking up clues and answering challenging quiz questions along the route!

All arrived back safely after a couple of hours and enjoyed a much-needed drink and complimentary nibbles while Mary and Rebecca set about marking the papers. In third place was the Amigos in the Jaguar, in second place was the Non-Golfers in, what else, a VW Golf. Winning a £20 gift card and a £40 gift card respectively.

The winners of the Cup and a ‘Porsche for the Day’ …..the new Fitzherbert Arms Treasure Hunt Champions of 2023 were The Goonies, Victoria and Kate, pictured!

Well done to all the teams who took part, you all did very well indeed. We hope to see you all again soon. We raised £130.00 for the Air Ambulance. Thank you for competing and making it another great day at the Fitzherbert Arms.

The Fitzherbert Arms’ 7th Treasure Hunt is a hit!

We certainly got lucky with the weather as 12 teams rocked up to compete in the 7th annual Fitzherbert Car Treasure Hunt. The pairs were sent off into the lovely Staffordshire countryside picking up clues and answering challenging quiz questions along the route!

All arrived back safely after a couple of hours and enjoyed a much-needed drink and complimentary nibbles while Tim set about marking the papers. It took a while as everything was very close indeed, so there was a need for a series of recounts!

There was a draw for third place between the lone driver team led by Alan of the Flintstones in his Aston Martin, the ‘Youngsters’ in their MGB (pictured) also came in third and team ‘Squtternut Bosch’ too in their Mini Clubman. When there is a draw then the highest Treasure Hunt score alone decides who is victorious and it was the ‘Squatternut Bosch’ Team that managed to win third overall! So winning a £20 gift card.

In second place were treasure hunt heroes the ‘Balmy Army’ their X Trail who collected a £40 gift card.

The winners of the Cup and a ‘Porsche for the Day’ and so becoming the Fitzherbert Arms Treasure Hunt Champions of 2022 were Matt and Helena, the ‘Two in a Box’ Team in their Porsche Boxter!

Well done to all the teams who took part, you all did very well indeed. We hope to see you all again soon. We raised £130.00 for our two charities….Hospitality Action and Action Against Hunger. Thank you for competing and making it another great day at the Fitzherbert Arms.

See you all next Year!

Car Club Meet 19, a great sign off to a great year!

Car Meet 19 (like Car Meet 17) had to be moved because of the weather to Sunday 20th October, as we welcomed over 40 cars at least to another great meet here at the Cholmondeley Arms. The weather wasn’t as forecasted, as showers hampered proceedings somewhat, but the turnout was fantastic for the time of year! Thank you to everyone who ‘rocked up’. It was great to see familiar faces along with some new cars and owners too. The owners gathered inside the Chum, in the main and enjoyed warming coffees and teas and of course the bacon butties.

The Cars of the Day were Mike and his impressive Ford GT 40, pictured, then Colin and his unique VW Beetle who picked up ‘best in class’ and finally Terry in his amazing Amphicar 770 from 1962 which still doubles up as a boat at 7 miles an hour and a car at 70 miles an hour, hence the numbers after the name! This was ‘Cherished car of the day’.

Pictured as well, are all the cars (hope I didn’t miss anyone!) that kindly joined us for the morning. In the end the sun came out and all was well for the final meet of the season.

I just want to say how very grateful we are, for all the amazing support the car events have had this season. We have seen an array of wonderful cars in all aspects across the pubs, dating back to Veterans and Vintages and many Classics plus of course ‘performance’ and ‘cherished cars’ too. We look forward to some very special events next year. See you all next season. Events will kick of next April 2020.

Record Car Club turnout at the Fitzherbert Arms!

On May bank holiday Saturday we welcomed 35 cars to the small Fitzherbert car park and we managed to get everyone in brilliantly! It was a cracking morning, the sun shone and everyone enjoyed their coffee and complimentary bacon bap!

Great chats about the cars on show, were to be had and two previous winners of ‘Car of the Day’ were on hand to help Fitz owner Tim, choose ‘Car of the Day’, ‘Cherished Car of the Day’ and ‘Sports car of the day’…

The winners for ‘Car of the Day’ were Netty and Andy with their amazing 1913 Chalmers Roadster.

James picked up ‘Cherished Car of the Day with his beautiful Jaguar MK II 3.4.

Sports car of the day went to Dave and his Ginetta G15. Dave was the car club member who had the idea for the Car Club ‘Passport’ so big thanks to Dave for the idea and any car club member who hasn’t had their 2019 Car Club Passport must email jess@cheshirecatpubsandbars.co.uk and request one or wait for the next car meet to be announced where we will be giving more out.

A massive thank you to everyone who brought their cars out for the morning. Its was great to meet everyone. Thanks to my landlord James and his team for looking after everyone so well.

We will see everyone at the next meet hopefully.

Below are the cars that attended.

200th Anniversary Car Treasure Hunt!

Yes in the 200th year of the famous Fitzherbert Arms the 4th Fitzherbert Arms Car Treasure Hunt went off well with 8 competitive teams setting off in to the Staffordshire countryside to enjoy picking up clues, a few photos and objects along the way too!

This year the trophy and Silverstone Porsche Day, donated by our Treasure Hunt sponsors Porsche Chester, was won by Caroline and Sally of the ‘mini the minx’ team and they were absolutely flabbergasted when the results were announced! Their partners were in a separate car and clearly looked dumbfounded when the girls picked up first place on the podium and clearly thrashing them!

Second place went to Charlee’s Angels…..newly-weds Paul and Jo whose team name paid homage to our Deputy manager Charlee! Third place went to Treasure Hunt veterans Emma and Richard who also took part in our Bulls Head treasure hunt too last month.

This now marks the end of the Car Club season here at Cheshire Cat Pubs…..we have really enjoyed hosting the three treasure hunts and they have been the best attended ever. Here’s to next year’s Car Meets, Safari’s and Treasure Hunts. Thank you for all your support and enthusiasm at all our pub Car events.

Sunshine at the Fitz welcomes another great turnout!

Thank you to all the car club members and enthusiasts who joined us for the first Car meet of the Season at the Fitzherbert Arms on Sunday May 13th.

We saw club members of the Good-fellows Car Club travel down from the Bulls Head in Mobberley and from Tarporley we welcomed Cholmondeley Arms Car club members as well as the core of the Fitzherbert Arms Club.

The cars that featured on the day can now be seen on the ‘Past Events’ page on the Car Club pages on the Fitzherbert Arms website www.fitzherbertarms.co.uk

Tim the owner of the Fitzherbert Arms and James the landlord of the ‘Fitz’ were on hand to recruit 12 new members and to take photos of the cars on show as well as presenting car club mugs and car stickers.

Tim and James along with other members of the team chose his ‘Favourite Car of the Day’, ‘favourite Car in Class’ and ‘cherished car of the day.

Congratulations to Julie and Tony with their 1953 MGTD for the ‘Favourite Car In Class’ and Bob with his 1964 Mercedes SL230 ‘Pagoda’ for the ‘Favourite Car of the Day’ and finally Graham and his 1966 Wolseley for ‘Cherished Car of the Day’.

We will be in touch soon with the next Car Meet which will be held at our Three Greyhounds Inn pub in Allostock near Knutsford and Holmes Chapel.
